Book Reviews

This past month I have been dropping a book review video every day of the month, and I have a few more to do. Here is the latest video so you can backtrack :Occult reference books.

What I do and have noticed actually, is that people read the same fucking books and they read them because everyone else does, but never did shit with the book. At least I went through majority of my books or have them scheduled to be performed in the next few months.

I will keep up with the book review videos since I got some many down this month. I have read majority of these books years ago, and I have so many that I want to get up and out. Even moving into the next month I will be dropping more videos maybe 2 times a week.

All in all, I really hate that phrase lol, I am feeling good in sharing the books that  I love and like with others. I tend to keep it pretty true to form with my colorful language in tack lol. I mean I really am not changing for anyone. I share what I love with people who want to listen, can’t get any better than that.

Read Books Update

So far I have read 5 Occult books. Not very happy about that. I am just not happy at that total at all. But I have 6 months to change it around and really knock out my Occult TBR list. So I have read 19 books total out of my Goodreads challenge of 52. I know that I will actually finish all 52 this year, but next year I have a better handle and idea on what I will be reading and keeping on track.

I will be getting audio book finally this year, so I can really get some books in. I really look forward to knocking out some books that I have always wanted to read. I will have reviews up on the following books on my YouTube Channel (Keona Esh). There are two that are already on the channel.

Walking the Twilight Path A Gothic Book of the Dead by Michelle Belanger

Magical States of Consciousness: Pathworking on the Tree of Life by Melita Denning

Karma-Yoga & Bhakti-Yoga by Swami Vivekananda

This month I will read 3-5 Occult books. They are the ones I want to knock out the most. Mainly because I told myself I will not buy any more books until I read the ones I have. Which I know is a lie lol. There a few new occult books that have came out that I will get lol. So there goes that promise.

Lilith Dark Feminine Archetype by Temple of Ascending Flame

I have been looking forward to this book since it was announced. Lilith is, after all my Spiritual Mother. I also contributed to this work, which is on page 17 (shameless plug). I just finished reading it this morning and I loved it all. I will actually go through the rituals during my sign of Scorpio. What better way to work with Lilith then during the time of Scorpio.

So let’s jump right in. This book comes in hardcover and paper book, 162 pages, with the rest being a list of books available which I always love when authors include them. There are 19 essays, rituals, poems, experiences, and guided meditations in this book. They are very wonderful in just reading, Plus you get to get a feel of each practitioner and how they related to the goddess, feel their experience and then try their rituals out for yourself. I will only point out a few of the rituals.

Fire and Lust by Asenath Mason and Rev Bill Duvendack brings you into the world of Lilith and her consort, one of many, Asmodeus (who is my spiritual Father so I was really excited when I was reading this). The invocation of these two will have your creative juices really rolling when you engage in this ritual. It can be done alone or with a partner, and the energy that is amassed and utilized in a productive manner will bring a lot of fruition to those performing it.

The Vase of Lilith by Nemo V, is a ritual that brings or pulls in the energy of Lilith with each offering giving. I actually decided to try a small version of it today. It worked out perfectly!

Invocation of Lilith bu Katie Anderson is a beautiful ritual to connect to that fire deep within, and Lilith helps you to release it. This ritual was very beautiful and so is the picture that she created as well.

Black Moon Lilith by Mike King is an invocation in becoming one with the Goddess and having her show you exactly what is needed to help you grow. When she joins with you, you will never be able to look at the world again in the same light, and that is worth it in itself.

There are a quite a few more rites, rituals both 7 and 5 days, and path workings, and even more with essays of deep knowledge about Lilith, and her mysterious origins. Reading the poems and the experiences that these practitioners have had with Lilith and how they communicate with her, is a feeling that I cannot put into words.

I already do my own workings with Mother, but I can’t wait to give the rituals and path workings in this book a run through. I schedule my workings and so I have enough time to get the materials and can actually have time for them. So this I will be looking forward to towards the Veil becoming thinner.

5 out of 5 as this is a complete grimoire of workings that will keep you busy for a few.

2018 Book Challenge

Posted in Important Posts with tags , , , , , , , on 01/02/2018 by Keona-Mlh

I fell off last year and only logged like 4 books. So this year I’m going for 52. I mean if I can binge watch these shows, then I cam binge a book.

I’m trying to do 26 Occult and 26 Fiction books this year. I want to clear out my kindle and my book shelf so I can purchase more books lol.

So the first book of the year is Yoga Anatomy. It has very good reviews and I want to work on yoga and breathing techniques this month so I can incorporate it into my daily workings.

You already know a review will be done after I am finished and I will be taking notes on it. Then after I do the practical applications I will share how they have impacted my practices.

Hecate: Death, Transition and Spiritual Mastery 2nd Ed by Jade Sol Luna

How I was going to review. I just chuck that. So  I will just be me, it is what it is. Let’s begin.

20170602_221329

OK so this was interesting, but it took me like 4 to 5 years to read it again, or pick it back up I shall say. It is so heavy on Greek version of Christianity that I had to stop myself from laughing, and yelling at the book. Seriously I talked to myself way more than I normally do. I have never known Hecate to be so firmly implanted into Abrahamic roles, that I would say this is 60% sickening, 20% pondering and 20% spot on useful information. So to read it again, and continue on I had to just grin and bare it. I did pull out some very useful information, mainly on workings that I can use and make actually occult instead of having it based in “light good, dark bad” shit.

Let’s just say I picked the book up because it was purple, it had Hecate on the cover and I was like yes! So sue me lol. The book is divided into 14 chapters though they are not named, and you may not know when you have crossed over. The first 5 chapters have subdivisions within. So let’s see which ones I will highlight.

Hecate.

It starts off with a beautiful portrait of her (pg 10) that gives the normal background of this Goddess. So get your BOS out and get ready to take some notes, as it has some decent information in it.

The Spiritual Purpose (pg 28) is where I was scratching my head. Just the whole “Zeus (the Christian Father, Ruler of Heaven)” and how Zeus gave Hecate suffering to deal with and him and the other gods abandoned her and she had to deal with it all alone and she became sad and depressed, I am like the fuck is wrong with you? I just kept it moving.

In the Wheel of Hecate (pg 41) I pulled the 6 shadow’s of Hecate’s wheel. I didn’t keep the “6 (7)” sins attached like he did, because I don’t follow that shit.  In doing so I added the Seven veils (pg 43) to the 6 shadows and made something very intriguing for me to work on later this month.

The next section is Death, and if you know me then you know how excited I got. So what I pulled to work with is Hecate/Baphomet and Thanatos/Hecate ( and I am working with both the Gods now so it is only fitting); and a skull meditation. The Seven Caeliums I read and I took the titles and then created my own system and changed the titles lol., which is what I do 97% of the time when using another magician;s work (unless it is dire that I keep it original). I was disappointed in this section as he eluded to those who do black magick in the past will have karma coming back at them because black magick is bad.

I also find it laughable that Wicca was originally the Latin Vicanus/Vicani that means one who works with Hecate/Diana/Bacchus instead of Catholicism. Like that is the fucking definition he gave of Wicca. And how if you work with more than one God you are doing a disservice to yourself and will not be able to fully obtain that next level. BULLSHIT.  Again we have the dark is bad light is good shit he keeps spewing in this book, and how Lucifer is unnatural light, but when he is combined with Hecate he is fine. Also Baphomet has to deal with suffering, bear the “infinite suffering”. I have no clue where the fuck people get this shit from, but it will never cease to amaze me.

Hecate’s form.

Now these 15 descriptions were actually very beautiful and I wrote them all down, well the bones of it so I can do my own connecting to her in these forms and see what my experiences are.

Hecate Worship (pg 125) have a lot of invocation and chants and hymns, in which maybe a couple I found useful but not many.

I find the birth cart kind of funny, having the mark of Lucierfia as an aspect of Hecate after calling Lucifer himself unnatural light, only when he is with Hecate is he good enough and changed into the feminine.

The Hecate Overview (pg 208) was pretty decent. If you have never worked with her, or have done so minimally, then this will be a good place to load up your BOS. Some good info to pull out and jog your memory, more myths and “historical” information about her and her life.

I think this book is good for those who are scared of the dark, and believe in the more Christianize version of occult. Wiccans would love this book, fluffy bunnies and those types. But for us who have are big girl and boy drawers on, this book has a few pages to hit up for some new ritual constructs and that is about all. I would borrow this book, I wouldn’t buy it.

Unfortunately when I saw this book I saw part 2 and brought that, and I regret it now that I am reading it lol. But hey, every book has its place in sharing information and the second one ain’t that bad, well in comparison to the first one. Although I am still reading it.
